Paranormal Activity

So this movie had a viral campaign a few weeks back urging the general public to vote for mass release. As you probably know it worked and the film was released last weekend to most theaters across the country. The movie itself looked like it would be a scary thriller of some sort based in actual reality. Unfortunatly it ended up being a Blair Witch type movie, a psuedo-reality based movie. I give this film credit the people behind have yet to let the stars of this film so a mass media tour like Blair Witch did. The movie starts by telling you it would like to thank the family of Micah Sloat and the San Diego police department, why you may ask? Well over the next hour plus we see that Micah and his girlfriend Katie are about to embark on the pising off of a demon and of course they are gonna document the whole thing. I realized going into this that this movie was crap but you can only avoid the inevitable so long. To make a long story short my girlfriend wanted to see it so I went. Call me whipped but I look at it as I dragged her to see Jennifer's Body and this was my pay back. (Jennifer's Body btw sucked)

So we see Micah and Katie and realize quickly that something is messed up at their house. Micah says that he bought the camera to document all the weird goings on in the house. So he shoots Katie doing random crap and then sets up the camera in their bedroom before they go to bed. This when the crap hits the fan so to speak. The first night we see the door move. The next day Katie has a meeting at the house with a psychic. He comes over and ask questions and like most people in their trade gives random answers and refers them to a demonologist. Micah pokes fun at the psychic and the demon thing and off to the first night after the psychic. Now there are weird noises that happen and loud thumps on the wall.

You all get the point. I could tell you most of the movies but will leave that up to you to waste your money. The gyst is eventually Katie gets possessed by the demon and kills Micah. There I ruined the movie for you. Of course if you thought the movie was real than it ruined itself by telling you at the end that the thing was a work of fiction. Did I get the creeps? Yeah they did a great job with special effects. Whoever wrote the story did a great job researching everything. From the ouji board to the burned picture to the cracked picture frame to the stalking it was well researched. I liked the part where the demon dragged her from bed and down the hallway. The shadows on the door, the footprints on the floor, the evp recordings, even finally the marks on her back from when it bit her and eventually possessed her. The most eerie thing that truely gave me the creeps was the look on her face that convinces Micah into staying at the house the last night. The stalking sequence at the end followed by the smell of the prey and the demon face into the camera were priceless as well. Was it worth the price of admission? Not if you are paying 7-10 bucks. Now if you are paying 1-5 bucks I would go see it again.

Keep in mind I hated the Blair Witch Project so it would go without saying that I would hate this. I also went into the movie thinking it would be different and to be honest at times wished something would happen and end this nightmare of a movie. But overall it wasnt that bad. It may not be up my alley, but then again I have weirs tastes in movies.

So if you were some of the people that ponied up there hard earned cash, I hope you enjoyed it. But for those looking for a good movie with things that make you jump and stuff that grosses you out wait for Saw 27 1\2 I think it comes out soon.
